Welcome the winter season with a deeply gratifying body and grateful heart. Winter is the time to quiet down, reflect, and clarify. This practice aims to purify the flow of the lymphatic and digestive systems as well as tonifies the reproductive organs, boosts the immunity, and prevents spring allergies. This yin sequence focuses on stretching and pressurizing the yin areas of the body at the lower and the back regions. When practice correctly yin stretch activates the rest and digest response and reduce stress and fatigue allowing the body to return to homeostasis while cultivating tissue repair and organ regeneration.
Yin yoga consists of static-passive postures held for 3-10 minutes. When the muscle relaxes the body rests in gravity. The pro-gravity state internally moisturizes the ligament system by increasing the blood flow and water to the ligament system and digestive organs. It regenerates the organs and increase lubrication in the plastic tissues--tendons, ligaments, and joints leading to greater flexibility and range of movement. Each Yin pose is held for a few to several minutes and can be considered a mini-meditation. Janya sequences the postures harmoniously and fluidly allowing for optimum relaxation and deepening physical and emotional insights.
